The Market Access organization acts as both educators and advocates for the products, processes, and practices that help Merck revolutionize medicine across the globe. Our tenacious, assertive group of individuals uses a deep understanding of the healthcare market in order to build collaborative relationships with the business leaders, customers, and legislative powers that help cultivate positive uptake of and education about Merck’s products throughout the world.


The Access Manager for the hospital segment leads all access efforts in high impact accounts within the in-patient segment. The Access Manager is responsible for the development of productive business relationships. Incorporates in-depth understanding of the hospital ecosystem (and impact across the healthcare value chain) to develop access strategies that result in coverage determination for Merck portfolio products.

Identifies and addresses customer needs at multiple levels given the complexity of accounts to generate solutions that enhance the partnership. Participates in the development of, as well as evaluates and proposes, strategic marketing initiatives to strengthen mutual business opportunities. Develops account-specific strategies and tactical plans to fully capitalize and develop the business. Assesses account performance and integrates pull-through activities with the Sales organization as well as other extended account team members to maximize appropriate utilization of Merck's products.


This position is field based and does not include relocation assistance.






  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Sales/Marketing) or relevant subject or fields (e.g. medicine, manufacturing or research). MBA, preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of managed care account manager or equivalent experience is required, previous large account management role, desired.
  • Contracting with Providers or Hospitals experience, required.
  • Experience working in health plans and/or with hospitals or hospital systems. In depth knowledge of access regulation impacting hospital segment, including Medicaid, Medicare and/or commercial segments.
