This position supports Merck’s discovery and development efforts for programs in the Department of Analytical Sciences at West Point, PA.  The incumbent is responsible for development and execution of analytical procedures to support the evaluation of formulated and unformulated pharmaceutical substances to be used in preclinical studies. 

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans and executes validation of analytical methods.
  • Performs analytical methods and simple analytical tests, including dose formulation analysis.
  • Documents results in electronic laboratory notebooks, laboratory information systems and performs second scientist review of data. 
  • Compiles data for reports and presentation - may interpret data and draw conclusions. 
  • May author chemical stability and deviation memos, analytical methods, validation summaries, and standard operating procedures. 
  • Liaises closely with Safety Assessment to support development timelines. 
  • May be involved on cross functional and global teams



  • A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or equivalent, with a minimum of two (2) years of industry experience.


  • Experience with HPLC separations.


  • Understanding of the regulatory guidelines governing operation of GXP laboratories and documentation.
  • Experience with the use of electronic notebooks, LIMS programs, Empower, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team and excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
