In alignment with the Merck Manufacturing objectives, the Associate Director for Capital Procurement will develop and execute sourcing strategies on his respective categories (engineering & construction services, equipment) driving value, quality and innovation for Merck manufacturing network globally.

The Associate Director will create value by working collaboratively with our business stakeholders to develop innovative sourcing solutions that allow Merck to identify and manage the most capable and compliant suppliers to support our business needs.

He/She will ensure & enable quality and stability of supply, the safe and efficient operation of our facilities; the upstream agility to execute successful new product launches.

He/She will help driving and enabling future technology and process innovations.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Collaboration & partnership with Global Engineering , Manufacturing, regional site management and Operations to understand company strategy, business trends & capital investment 
  • Utilize project management skill sets and inherent understanding of strategic sourcing methodologies and global supplier market. 
  • Lead and execute complex sourcing projects among multi-disciplinary projects team, in dynamic Manufacturing and R&D environment. 
  • Procurement Leadership - Provide the leadership, strategy for the category building a high performance engagement model with the business and regions. 
  • Value: Deliver cost reduction, focus on quality & compliance as well as meeting the stakeholder business requirements. 
  • Change Management - Adopt high quality change practices with customers and stakeholders. Be a personal exemplar of the Merck Leadership Standards. 
  • Diversity - Actively support diversity, both within Merck as well as expanding relationships and spend with Diverse Suppliers. 
  • Supplier Performance & relationship Management - Implements Supplier relationship programs & governance with the key suppliers in this category to foster innovation, manage supplier performance, and ensure continuous improvement.  


Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelor’s degree (procurement /supply chain or engineering preferred)

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 7 years of procurement experience and professional experience in complex matrix organizations.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Mastery of purchasing knowledge, and the understanding of “best value” sourcing decisions
  • Engineering / technical background.
  • Working experience in matrix organizations, exposure to international markets / multicultural environment or experience abroad are a plus.
  • 3 years of complex project management experience with exposure to change management.
  • Lean / Six sigma certification is a plus
  • Experience in various methodologies for measuring the value of procurement decisions, both financially and qualitatively.
  • CPM or equivalent certification preferred.
