Associate Director, Social Media, Global Communications develops and implements global animal health corporate social media strategy to support the Merck Animal Health corporate reputation. This includes developing and managing Merck Animal Health social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc) for corporate reputation programs and campaigns – to engage, inform and inspire customers, employees and advocates in the companion and food animal health space. Drives engagement and followership through paid and organic means. Align channels and programs to deliver content and interact with communities and influencers for pharmaceutical and vaccine products.


Responsibilities include monitoring channels and engaging with global marketing teams to create content/engagement for corporate channels. Partner with communication team colleagues to develop protocols for daily and crisis-based social listening to identify trends, monitor influencers and identify opportunities to engage, respond or forge new relationships. Develops annual plan and responds to opportunistic social media situations. Monitors and tracks results.


Develops animal health corporate social media policy and processes to streamline workflow and ensure compliance in regulated spaces.


Reporting into Animal Health Global Communications Leader, the position works closely with other communication colleagues, marketing team members, IT, and marketing services. Shares best practices with other animal health groups/regions/countries to pilot social media programs managing the corporate channel. Counsel marketing teams on social media corporate campaigns.

Participates on Merck Social Media council -sharing best practices across company. Assists on other global communication projects, including traditional media, serving as a liaison to third party groups and to external experts, Company spokesperson to trade, local and digital news media.



Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelors Degree Required (Preferred areas of study include: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field)
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a communications role 
  • Excellent hands on/working knowledge of social media channels in a global environment.
  • Strong writing skills. Strong collaboration and influence skills – can effectively partner across functions.
  • Prior experience working in an agency or corporate communications team.
  • Experience managing corporate media issues and crisis.
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of the business and regulatory environment
