A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nicole Brogden in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Experimental Therapeutics, in the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. The research will focus on the effect of drug formulation strategies on topical and transdermal absorption of compounds delivered with microneedle systems. The project will encompass pharmacokinetics, drug formulation, animal models, ex vivo skin models, and tissue processing to address key questions. The University of Iowa has outstanding state-of-the-art core facilities that will augment the candidate’s research capacity and facilitate data collection, while simultaneously broadening their range of scientific expertise.

The selected candidate is expected to work independently while interacting in a collaborative environment, also assisting with design and execution of the experiments of junior laboratory members. The scholar should be self-motivated and will be responsible for design, collection, and analysis of research data, maintaining log books, troubleshooting experiments, and training graduate students and research assistants. The scholar will also be responsible for preparation of manuscripts related to his/her work and will strive to obtain their own grant funding if possible mechanisms exist.

Strong written communication skills are required.

Desirable technical abilities include:

-- Use of microneedles for skin drug delivery studies

-- Dermatology research techniques including tape stripping, use of a dermatome, and studies using diffusion cells

-- LC-MS/MS experience

-- Nanoparticle formulation techniques

-- Strong training in animal handling

Other desirable qualifications:

-- A background in Biomedical Engineering

-- Relevant postdoctoral experience
