The Regional Sales Manager, Oncology is responsible for managing a team of 12 Oncology Therapeutic Specialists, accountable for the development and execution of territory Specialist plans to effectively engage Health Care Professionals, primarily Medical Oncologists, to promote the use of KEYTRUDA in approved indications. The position covers the provinces of Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia and reports to the Business Unit Head, Oncology.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Is primarily responsible for achieving the annual national sales and business objectives for KEYTRUDA by coordinating the development, implementation and monitoring of the Territory Tactical Plans, ensuring alignment with Business Unit and Merck Canada objectives.
  • Leads a team of Oncology Therapeutic Specialists (OTS) and is responsible for managing these employees in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws and regulations.  He/she oversees their personal growth and development and creates an environment which fosters and strongly supports employee engagement, momentum and retention.
  • Engages with Canadian Scientific Leaders directly and via the OTS to develop his/her scientific and clinical knowledge of Oncology, to assess the effectiveness of our strategy and OTS’ performance.
  • Is a critical link between the Head Office and the field and also provides input to business/launch planning for KEYTRUDA.   
  • Displays strong customer focus and champions the development of innovative plans and programs that enhance customer momentum and commercial results. 
  • Identifies networks and develops strong working relationships with key customers and customer groups.
  • Works closely with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Marketing, and Institutional Key Account Management to ensure strong collaboration to maximize impact.
  • Significant travel is expected (60-80% of time in the field).

The Regional Sales Manager, Oncology will complete his/her tasks in a manner fully consistent with Merck's commitment to our Values and Standards, policies, procedures, industry standards and all laws and regulations.

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Preference for a candidate with Oncology Sales experience and people management experience (leading a team of field based employees).
    • Candidates who do not have people management experience must have at least five years of Oncology sales experience to be considered.
    • Candidates who do not have oncology sales experience, must have at least three years of Sales Management experience (preferably in an institutional setting) to be considered. 
  • Experience in multiple functional areas preferred. 
  • Demonstrated record in changing trend-lines, challenging the status quo and exceeding business objectives. 
  • Demonstrated focus on customers and ability to coach representatives in account planning. 
  • Strong knowledge of Merck policies, procedures, industry standards and laws and regulations. 
  • Demonstrated people management abilities (attracting, developing, motivating , rewarding and retaining talent). 
  • Communication skills (both oral and written). 
  • Bilingualism required (French and English) 
  • Successful candidate must be based in the region (QC, AB, BC).  Relocation support may be offered based on business need and personal circumstances.
