Capsugel - now a Lonza company - has an opening for a Senior Analytical Scientist at our location in Bend, OR. (formerly Bend Research)  

 

This is a great opportunity to join a group of scientists and engineers with a focus on the product development of multiparticulates as an oral drug delivery technology.

 

As a Senior Analytical Scientist with the Multiparticulate team, you will design & conduct experiments, analyze & interpret data, and communicate & present results to internal and external product development teams. You will apply your knowledge of science & engineering fundamentals in a hypothesis-driven environment to guide and support analytical methods, formulation, and process development activities needed to promote successful customer products at all stages of the development life cycle.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following list:

 

  • Actively design & execute experiments and analyze & interpret data that contribute to project strategies and goals
  • Document and communicate experiments with detailed observations, concise conclusions, and recommended next steps to both internal and external teams
  • Sample preparation & analysis, instrument qualifications & verifications, and method development, transfer, & validation of chemicals, formulations and dosage forms
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries & protocols and participate in data reviews and client discussions
  • Demonstrate subject-matter expertise in one or more technical areas, and implement continuous improvements and innovations for the team, technology, and company
  • Coach, train & mentor both team members and colleagues through transfer of knowledge and hands-on technical skills
  • Flexible to work in both development and GMP laboratory settings

Requirements

  • A PhD, or MS degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with at least 3 years of industry experience in the area of analytical method development and testing. Or, a BS degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with at least 5 years of industry experience in the area of analytical method development and testing
  • Experience in the development, transfer, and validation of analytical methods for GMP laboratories
  • Knowledge of formulation and process techniques for several oral drug delivery technologies, with an emphasis on multiparticulates
  • Proven scientific and technical skills in problem solving, data analysis & interpretation from common analytical techniques, and method & instrument troubleshooting
  • Ability to perform various tests and adapt techniques where required for a range of chemicals, formulations, and dosage forms
  • Expertise in several common analytical techniques including: HPLC, UPLC, Dissolution, XRD, DSC, GC, DVS, and KF
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative, scientifically-driven, team-oriented, and customer-focused environment
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, research and manufacturing environment
  • CMC & regulatory experience with advancing oral drug products through phase 3 clinical trials and commercialization is encouraged
