The Principal Scientist will participate in all aspects of chemical development of small molecule API’s (raw materials, intermediates and drug substances), including process technology transfer activities. The successful candidate will design, enable and develop scalable chemical processes, applying innovative chemistries and new technologies in a laboratory setting. The ability to work on multi-disciplinary teams involving chemists, analysts and manufacturing teams is essential.
This position is laboratory based in Irving, Texas.
Propose and identify efficient and robust synthetic routes for the preparation of API’s under tight timelines.
Experience with scale up activities of medicinal chemistry synthetic routes to support API production at scales and quantities for conducting GLP studies.
Laboratory experimentation, participation on API project teams and work in collaboration with scientists from Analytical R&D, medicinal chemistry and outsourcing partners to further develop synthetic routes into synthetic processes.
Interpretation of analytical data to drive synthetic experimental plans and ability to utilize electronic tools (such as electronic notebook) to document information.
Participate in the preparation of technical transfer documents for manufacture at third parties.
Contribute to the synthesis, isolation and characterization of related substance impurity standards.

PhD. in Organic Chemistry with 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
Knowledge of modern synthetic methodology, including aspects of asymmetric synthesis, green chemistry, catalysis and physical organic chemistry as it relates to reaction mechanism is expected.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to effectively influence the work of others and a general knowledge of drug development and the pharmaceutical industry are key.
Experience with the use of modern chromatographic, spectroscopic and analytical techniques in synthetic chemistry (HPLC, NMR, IR and MS) and analyzing and interpreting scientific data is essential.
Capability to effectively manage multiple projects and work independently as assigned.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present data to a broad audience.
A flexible, self-motivated attitude with respect to work assignments and continued industry related education.
Excellent organization, analytical and problem-solving skills and verbal / written communications skills are required.
Experience in natural product synthesis is beneficial.
