Technical Director

The Company - Our client is a global company and leader specializing in both manufacturing world-class excipients and partnering with leading pharmaceutical companies to improve their own product performance and quality. This role will be based in NJ (relocation flexible considering the COVID situation) The company is jointly owned by two of the world’s top multi-national dairy companies. It has production locations in the Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, and India. The global sales offices are in Germany, the United States, Singapore, Japan, India, Brazil, and China and are responsible for sales into more than 100 countries. The company currently employs over 400 employees and it is known for their superior excipient excellence and the development of high-grade lactose excipients for their customers. The company's strategic partner recently sold their half of their ownership stake to one of the world’s leading (and performance oriented) private-equity firms. Their key objective is to continue to accelerate the growth and development of the company, leveraging the PE firm’s investments and strategic platforms.

The Position - The Technical Director, based in the NE (ideally), will utilize first-hand knowledge of product processes and portfolio to determine which of their functional ingredients are applicable in specific customer formulations. This individual has the freedom to build, expand, and maintain their strong reputation for providing a specific expertise, which customers value greatly. Coordinate, develop, and maintain the US business via direct customer relationships and strong industry networks. Provide technical support and education to the sales team to strengthen the sales team’s expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

Business Development

• Establishing and maintaining a strong customer focus and, thereafter, developing the capability of anticipating and analyzing their technical needs to enable technical sales and issue solving.
• Providing internal and external technical support to customers on oral solid dosage formulations, as well as inhalations.
• Translating customer technical needs in powder characteristics to US technical solutions.
• Acting as the first point of contact for technical queries, followed by escalation to central T&I product application specialists.
• Independently establishing and maintaining a strong business pipeline management technique and the technical training of teams and distributors.
• Independently identifying new opportunities for existing and new products and services.
• Report into the CRM System all customer related activities.
• Lead and/or take part in internal projects that attend to market needs.
• Independently identifying needs and developing new projects by acting as the mediator between US Sales, Marketing and Application teams in order to rapidly grow revenue through direct and indirect sales.
• Leading and developing the company’s SHE regulations and contribute to a proactive SHE culture.
• Represent the company at regional industry associations such as NJPhast.

Brand Development and Marketing

• Promote key benefits and the brand equities (together with Marketing & T&I).
• Plan, devise, and lead product and application trainings for the sales team and distributors.
• Prepare and present deeply technical, public presentations to R&D customer formulators.
• Ensure that the US brand is well represented by the internal team and distributors in the market.
• Represent customer needs and trends in the company T&I forums in order to develop cutting edge innovation.
• Represent the company at industry forums, such as IPEC.

Market Monitoring

• Communicate openly with internal staff in the Pharma market to convey a timely understanding of customer needs and feedback on market trends.
• Update, complete, and maintain customer profiles in the CRM.
• Monitor technical queries for service enhancements.
• Implement and review tools, processes, and partners to continually build, improve, and capture local market knowledge of North America.
