Under the general direction of a more senior staff or director, the incumbent is primarily responsible for directing, conducting and performing formulation research and development activities with little technical guidance on laboratory techniques.  May provide direction to other professional personnel.  Plans and executes technical program within own area of specialty.  Expected to initiate new projects within an existing program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to a more senior staff member/director from whom assignments are received, conducts formulation research and development activities with only general supervision.
  • Incumbent is responsible for determining possible causes of action to be pursued and is expected to plan, schedule and execute activities to provide solutions to problems posed.
  • Lead efforts to continuously refine the formulation development approaches by application of quality by design (QbD) and quality risk management principles throughout DP development to ensure state-of-the art science and risk based development approach.
  • Lead laboratory and manufacturing investigations to ensure scientific validity of the investigation conclusion.
  • Proactively ensures regulatory, GMP (when appropriate) and EHS compliance for all teams locally.
  • Responsible for authoring and review of major pharmaceutical submission documentation and queries.
  • Review and approve protocols, reports, memos, specifications, CMC analytical sections, response to authorities, and other documentation that are scientifically valid.
  • Represent Formulation Development on multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Interacts effectively with external area e.g. manufacturing, tollers and marketing to ensure timely project development.
  • May direct several related or independent assignments at one time.
  • Operates in compliance with all corporate, divisional and departmental HSE and quality directives.

 

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) from an accredited institution in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or equivalent field; or an MS from an accredited institution in in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or equivalent field with at least four (4) years of experience; or a BS from an accredited institution in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or equivalent field with at least six (6) years of experience in chemistry, materials science or pharmaceutics.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Preformulations/Formulations experience.
  • GxP knowledge.
  • Characterization experience to include but is not limited to physical, chemical, thermal, mechnanical, and rheological properties.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Independent thinker,planner, and executor of technical activities.
  • Fundamental understanding of pharmaceutical product development and formulations coupled with hands-on experience with chemical and physical characterization of materials, pharmaceutical excipients and finished oral dosage forms and parenterals.
  • With the preformulations and characterization skills, the compatibility and stability of drug/drug, drug/excipient and excipient/excipients combinations are evaluated and predicted.
  • Strong analytical skills to effectively present test data and other related findings.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
