Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS): DPS is one of the two departments in College of Pharmacy. DPS consists of 15 faculty and is responsible to teach all the basic and pharmaceutical sciences courses to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) students. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is supervised by Chair and works as primary contact for the faculty and staff in this department. DPS faculty conduct research and work on projects with goal and expectation to publish and pursue extramural research funding. Faculty are expected to maintain extramural funding to conduct research. The USF COP initiated the Graduate program and DPS faculty participate in different aspects of this program which offers Master in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology with future prospects of PhD program in different research areas.
Position Summary: Duties: The incumbent will serve as an Associate/Associate Professor in the DPS with specialization in Pharmacology and Molecular Therapeutics and is expected to develop vigorous, independent, extramurally-funded research programs. He/she will develop courses, and effectively teach students in the area of Pharmaceutical Sciences and related sciences such as Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry and remain current in the areas of instruction relevant to the pharmacy curriculum. The successful candidate will maintain a credible research laboratory and supervise post-doctoral, graduate level, Masters students, and/or Pharm D students in the laboratory, supervise and teach new research techniques including the use of appropriate instruments and equipment, and statistical and analytical procedures. Successful candidate will work with Departmental Staff and Administration for maintaining teaching, research and service components as assigned by the Department Chair. Additional responsibilities include but aren't limited to providing daily supervision and review of student performance and serving as advisor to Pharm D students, pre-doctoral, post-doctoral and research assistants.
Minimum Qualifications: Assistant Professor: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor
Associate Professor: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in referred and other professional journals. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor.
Preferred Qualifications: The incumbent must hold a minimum of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in pharmacy, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacogenomics, bioinformatics, or related biomedical science; plus, substantial research expertise and experience as reflected by a significant number of scientific publications in critically reviewed scientific journals as appropriate to his/her research.
Research areas and approaches that complement existing departmental strengths include all areas of neuropharmacology, cardiovascular, metabolic diseases, aging, muscle disease, molecular and cellular pharmacology and research into therapeutics that protect from or mitigate the effects of radiation. In addition, experience with current research approaches in behavioral pharmacology, drug discovery, molecular signaling mechanisms, immune pharmacology or pharmaco-genetics will be welcomed.
